And I can tell you ...Well…this is heavy to be sure. And I can tell you from experience that this will weigh on you and cause you no small amount of grief.
I could say that you shouldn’t blame yourself but I can see that you have already seen the utter futility in that.
This happens a lot more than people realize, as I’m sure your doctor told you, and it seems meaningless because this time it was your child but it really is true. When something is wrong, the child simply doesn’t grow and take shape and when they tell you it’s for the best… well, as bitter a pill as that may seem, it’s true.
We went through it and I thought we’d never stop crying or moping or feeling the loss of a small, ghost of a child that would haunt us forever. And we ended up divorcing. It was a tragedy from every angle and I never thought that I could be whole again.
But…you knew that was coming, eh? We reunited and our son Silas was born this past June.
I know it’s still very close to you and there are no words that I can weave to take away any of the genuine pain you’re feeling but Gray is right. When the time comes your child will find you and you’ll be happy again.
You should grieve and mourn and be sad…it’s natural and, ultimately, healthy. But don’t let this defeat you utterly. I spent too long lying in dark rooms and sucking on the business end of bottles to forget what grief is like and I know it seems like nothing can help and the whole world is meaningless so I won’t give you a lot of false hope and empty catch-phrases.
Just hold on and hope and know…know that this is temporary.
If the spark was struck…well, it’s still shining out there and eventually it will come Home.C.S.
