I just heard from my friend Shannon this morning - her little boy Joseph was just diagnosed with leukemia on Monday at Duke University Hospital after months of progressing illness. He was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis earlier this year after originally undergoing treatment for potential cancer spots on his lungs. This poor little boy just had his 4th birthday on September 23rd and has already suffered more than any person should ever have to in a long lifetime. He has been ill, in and out of hospitals, and enduring painful treatments for mysterious ailments almost since the day he was born.
Today, Shannon is waiting for the results of his spinal tap. Please send your thoughts and prayers that the test will not show the leukemia has made it to his spinal cord. If still clear, he will be able to undergo aggressive treatment and battle the disease.
I can't even imagine the pain that this mother has been going through, trying to help her baby but unable to do just that. She also dealt with a cancer diagnosis herself this year and bravely won that battle for her 4 children. It is unimaginable to me that one family, one little boy, can have such a disproportionately high number of horrible things happen to him in the four years since he was born. It just isn't fair, and I can't wrap my brain around it.
Thoughts and prayers coming for the little one. As a friend of another child dealing with leukemia I know how powerful all these prayers can be. She went into remission soon after starting treatment, but she has to keep up the chemo for the next 2 years.
